Royal Oak Represented in Tonight's National Championship Football Game

Shrine graduate Branch Kampe is a freshman linebacker for the LSU Tigers.

When the Louisiana State University Tigers battle the Alabama Crimson Tide for college football's National Championship title tonight, a former Royal Oak Shrine standout will be on the field.

Branch Kampe, a 2011 graduate of , is a freshman linebacker for LSU. Kampe, an all-state quarterback for Shrine, wears No. 63.

He is the son of  men's basketball coach Greg Kampe, who said recently that although his son hasn't seen any playing time yet this year, a national championship is a national championship — as long as you're part of the team.

“He may not get one play in that game, but he’s got all the bumps and bruises to show he was part of it," Greg Kampe recently told the Oakland Press for its Grizzlies Den blog.

Kampe and the rest of the family are attending tonight's game, according to Scott MacDonald, director of communications for OU Athletics.
