Royal Oak Weekly Sports Wrap-up

A win for the new football coach, a freshman on the run and a host of games and matches on tap for this week. Welcome to fall sports, Royal Oak style.

Royal Oak schools sports teams kicked off the fall season with an impressive gridiron victory for new high school football coach Jeff Hill, who led his team to its first victory in 28 games. Here's a look at the first week's action:

Football

The football team pulled out on Aug. 25 to put its first "W" in the books in nearly four years. , overjoyed at the end to the long drought. It came down to the Ravens denying a two-point conversion attempt to win the game – and the rest is history.

Next up: A home game at 7 p.m. today against Troy, which lost its opener to Romeo last week.

Cross-country

to lead the team in its first meet, the Redhawk Invitational at Firefighter Park in Troy.

Boys soccer

The Ravens soccer team takes on the Berkley Bears at 2 p.m. today, playing for new head coach . Patch writer Jake Thielen . 

Girls swimming and diving

Royal Oak hosts Stoney Creek at 6:30 p.m. today to open the season. 

Girls volleyball

The Ravens volleyball team opens the season Tuesday when it hosts Clawson at 7 p.m. 

Boys tennis

The team travels to Berkley High School to open the season at 4:30 p.m. today.
