Ryan Irish Named New Royal Oak Football Coach

Ravens' offensive coordinator coach takes over for Jeff Hill, who resigned to deal with his youngest daughter's fight with leukemia

The (ROHS) athletic department has named Ryan Irish as the new Royal Oak Ravens head football coach. The position became available following the in January 2012.

Hill, a Royal Oak Dondero High alumnus and former Milford coach, was named the . He replaced Dave Potter, who was head football coach for three seasons and had an 0-27 record.

A year later Hill resigned after learning his youngest daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. The Royal Oak school district offered the football coach a, but Hill decided to step down to take care of family matters, saying he didn't want to put the team behind in its quest to improve.

Following a posting for the head coach position, which drew more than 20 applicants, a series of interviews were held, with the result being the selection of Irish, who served as the Ravens' offensive coordinator last year under the leadership of Hill. 

"Coach Irish brings a vast array of knowledge and enthusiasm to our program, players, and our entire school here at Royal Oak High. We are looking forward to another exciting season with Ryan Irish as our new coach," Brian Gordon, ROHS athletic director, said in a news release.
