Say Hello to 1,436 Runners and Walkers

Here's a look at the Oak Apple Run in photos — from start to finish.

It took Warren resident Matt Fecht, 29, 32:34 minutes to complete a 10K course through Royal Oak Saturday morning to win the Oak Apple Run.

"We got lucky with the weather," Fecht said. "The rain held off for us today. It was a little bit muggy, but I'll take it over a storm."

Volunteers arrived in downtown Royal Oak at 5 a.m. to set up the course in the pouring rain, but by the time Mayor Jim Ellison fired the starting gun for the 10K and 5K races at 7:30 a.m. the sun was peaking through the clouds.

A Birmingham Seaholm harrier, 15-year-old Jack Halpin, ran a personal best (17:44) to win the Oak Apple Run 5K race.

The 5K race is new this year. It was added to fill the gap between the fun runners and the more serious 10K athletes, according to Kim Frentz, the event's director.
