5 Things to Explore at the Detroit Zoo This Week

With the first day of school just around the corner, how will you spend the last few weeks of summer vacation? 

If you are looking for something to do, how about a trip to the Detroit Zoo? Situated on 125 acres right here in our own backyard, did you know the zoo is home to more than 3,300 animals of 280 species?

With summer vacation winding down, Patch explores one of Michigan's most beloved family attractions.

1.    Love Gone Wild

Birds do it. Bees do it. This Valentine’s Day event takes a candid and entertaining look at how zoo animals do the “wild thing”. The evening includes an intimate and revealing look into the “dating” and mating escapades of the Detroit Zoo’s animals and offers a strolling supper and delectable desserts.

2.    Sunset at the Zoo

The wildest event of the summer features a strolling supper and dessert reception offering signature dishes from more than 40 of metro Detroit’s best restaurants as well as hosted bars featuring zoo-themed specialty drinks. The evening includes live music, dancing and silent and live auctions.

3.    Summer Zoomance

Take a chance on Summer Zoomance! Twice during the summer, adults are invited to rekindle their childhood love for the Detroit Zoo at an after-hours adults-only event with cash bars, complimentary tram tours, animal enrichment and zookeeper talks and live music.

4.    Wild Beasts, Wild Wine

Sample wine from more than 30 local and national wineries and vineyards while enjoying the Zoo’s award-winning habitats at twilight. The experience also features live music, complimentary tram tours, animal enrichment and zookeeper talks.

5.    Zoo Brew

Lions and tigers and beers … oh, my! Enjoy unique beers from select Michigan craft breweries, live music and food for purchase. The beer-tasting experience also includes access to the Zoo’s award-winning habitats at twilight, complimentary tram tours of the Zoo, animal enrichment and zookeeper talks.
