7 Indoor Places for Kids to Cool Off in Royal Oak

As temperatures reach above 90 degrees this week, here's a look at seven places in Royal Oak that give kids (and parents) a break from the heat.

1. Inflatable Playscapes

Located at 5160 Meijer Drive in Royal Oak, this business offers not only bounce houses to rent but also two drop-in playtimes each week in its air conditioned facility. 2. John Lindell Ice Arena

Royal Oak's John Lindell Ice Arena at 1403 Lexington Boulevard is offering a Lil' Eagles summer hockey program for kids ages 4-10. Classes are offered Mondays and Saturdays now through August 17. Find full details here.

3. Royal Oak Public Library

The library's youth area offers books, a puppet theater, computers for children to use and other activities. Book clubs and several youth programs are also offered each week. Find more information at the library's web site.

4. Emagine / Star Lanes

Families can enjoy a showing of Despicable Me 2, Turbo or Monsters University in the air-conditioned Royal Oak theater at 200 N. Main Street, or head over to Star Lanes for a round or two of bowling.

5. Creative Art Studio

The Detroit Zoo features many indoor exhibits. Hours are 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily until Labor Day.
