When did Santa and Jesus become BFFs?

Let me start this off by letting everyone know this is not a post about religion!!!

It has, over the past 10 years or so, become an issue for schools to celebrate Christmas or even mention Santa....WHY?  When and why have we become so politically correct that we take away what means the most to some young kids...Christmas and Mr Claus?!!!!

Every December my kids come home with information relative to Holiday celebrations like Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, and I think that's great.  We should be teaching our children about other cultures and religions...it makes them more aware of what others celebrate. BUT in doing so we have taken away what many of us celebrate.  I have heard the reason is because we don't want to offend those who don't celebrate Christmas...well I am offended!  Christmas is what I celebrate and I am not allowed to be proud about it and wish others to have a "Merry Christmas" because I might offend....really????

I am not a conservative religious zealot by any means, but I do smile when I see Madison Heights Holiday decorations every year....if you haven't seen them I suggest you drive by the 13 mile road (just west of John R) majesty.  They are celebrating the holiday and not worrying about separation of church and state...just celebrating.

So to the parents who say celebrating Santa is "illegal" because he implies religion... I would like to ask you to step back and remember your childhood.  I don't remember ever seeing Santa at the birth of Jesus or even reading about him in the Bible (which I have read cover to cover).  Santa is a figure with legendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, is said to bring gifts to the homes of the good children on the night before Christmas, December 24.  If your response is that he is based on St. Nicholas then I would counter with the fact that that man is celebrated on St. Nicholas' Day, which is December 6.

We are a country that welcomes all people, religions and cultures.  It is what we were founded on, so my question is "what happened to that?"  Let's make December the month of all celebrations...heck we can even make a ribbon for it (I would love to design that one).  Let's embrace Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Christmas and show our children that everyone matters.  Wow, wouldn't that be adults leading by example?

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa to you and yours this season :)
