Ellison Crosses the Line

So Mayor Ellison regurgitates the One Royal Oak talking points in "his" letter to the community and now has appeared in a TV ad supporting Prop A? Jim Ellison is not a leader, he is an instigator. It seems a bit unethical to use one's political title to advocate for (or against) legislation. As Mayor, Ellison is SUPPOSED to represent all his constituents. Instead, he sides with those on one side of the issue. If he wants to air his opinions as a private citizen, he can do so; but he should not be presenting himself as mayor when he does. It makes me wonder where else he has "bent" ethics in his personal and public lives.

Speaking about not representing all of one's constituents, the same can be said of the AFL CIO, which sent out a letter urging citizens to support Prop A. How is this fair to members of the union who oppose Prop A? In sending out this letter, they discriminated against a group of its own members. This is unjust, and is one of the reasons I am glad Michigan is now a "right to work" state. Why should people pay union dues that are spent advocating causes that they personally oppose?

Our society is following the same 200-year rise-and-fall pattern of all the great cultures that preceded it. We have become lazy and immoral, accepting values and behavior that should never be accepted. Apparently the American Psychiatric Association is about to issue new DSM guidelines that remove pedophilia as a disorder, instead placing it in the same category as homosexuality: a sexual orientation. Our culture is sick and disintegrating. Our nation itself is in decline. I will not abet this decline by supporting gay rights over my Christian faith. I will not vote for Proposal A.

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20).
