Where Do They Come Up with This Stuff?

Opponents of Just Royal Oak have come up with a new tactic: claiming that our group is not based in Royal Oak. If this were true, it would still be like the pot calling the kettle black. Who had Mark Schauer (NOT a Royal Oak resident) as the main feature of their recent fundraiser?

Unfortunately for One Royal Oak, our group is solidly based in Royal Oak. Its leaders (me included) are Royal Oak residents. I grew up in Royal Oak and moved back to my childhood home in 1997. The people in our group are from Royal Oak. Our donors so far are all from Royal Oak.

The opposition accuses us of being bigots because we do not want to sacrifice our constitutionally guaranteed liberties to political correctness. That such "human rights" ordinances as the one proposed in Royal Oak have led to persecution and prosecution of Christian business owners is well documented. Because Bible-believing Christians cannot advocate for behavior which God condemns, they have become the number one target of LGBT activists. I read a story recently about what has been happening to Christians at Lackland Air Force Base. It is truly scary that they are now the ones being discriminated against by those who are pushing the LGBT agenda.

There seems to be an assumption that only certain groups are "legitimate" victims of discrimination. This is political correctness run amok. Tolerance goes too far when it deprives someone of his/her religious freedom, freedom of association, privacy rights, and property rights. It goes too far when it would compel a person to violate his/her conscience. We should be able to agree to disagree; that is true tolerance. If the Christian business owner does not wish to print "gay pride" T-shirts or provide flowers or photography for a gay marriage or civil union (where legal) or cater the food for a One Royal Oak event, he/she should be able to say no. Other business owners would be happy to provide those services.

To the posters who make much of our mailing address: if you truly had looked up our group's papers online, you would have seen that our physical address is indeed in Royal Oak.
