Royal Oak has become a classic example of taxation without representation as apparently an approval for a ten/twelve? year abatement is taken for granted by a developer and this was no doubt concluded behind closed doors.

This giving away of tax revenue for mega bars and development in general needs to be kaboshed and by the way city parking sold for a song next to Frentz Hardware; city approved because they said they would still allow the store parking, was walked away from by the local property owner/developer and is now on the open market by that property owner. Was this the finagle it appears to be?

Residents and local merchants should be thoroughly disgusted with these back door machinations by mega-bars, developers, landlord's and their city connected attorneys.
Show up Weds at 4pm (DDA) and tell them we don't need your ten year abatement demand. We are Royal Oak, not some down on its luck one time factory town. No city in its right mind offers more than a five year abatement unless it involves more than a thousand REAL jobs that can support LOCAL families. With downtown rents going as high as $42 sq ft it is now no longer necessary to support wealthy families in the Bloomfields, Grosse Pointe, California, Chicago etc at the expense of our parks, schools and neighborhoods!
If this passes our DDA/city hall marriage SHOULD be investigated.

Great Caesars Ghost- Now at tonight's DDA meeting I heard mention of a twelve year abatement?????????
