Cupcakes are a work of Art

Cupcakes are a work of art.

Its that time, to visit with my mature older lady friends. We get together twice weekly for activities. This activity would however be art of a different form, we are decorating cupcakes for one of the ladies who is celebrating her 90th birthday.

I provided the cupcakes, frosting and a variety of toppings. After I gave each a cupcake I stood back and observed quietly. Each lady had her own method of putting on the frosting. Then they looked over the topping choices I had placed in front of them.

These ladies do wonderful paintings on blank pieces of wood and draw designs on a piece of fabric. They are very talented in their own right. I create myself, I quilt, paint, make dolls, etc. Most of my designs are in my head, the creative genius just happens. When I watch them work on a project, I'm always amazed at what they come up with. When I ask them where their idea comes from, they point at their head and tell me, "up there."

We don't give our seniors enough credit these days. In this hurry up world we live in, where a tray of cupcakes would get frosted so we can move on to the next project, these ladies take their time as if they were Picasso or painting a sculpture. We all need to slow down and enjoy the scenery.

I'm the one who is always so impressed by what the finished project looks like. They inspire me to continue to create even more. Like them I want to live to see my golden years, to be 90 and painting is a dream. Surround me with my painters palette and lots of glorious colors.

These ladies were not just frosting cupcakes, they were creating works of art to be enjoyed and then eaten. I'm looking forward to more inspiring visits.
