There's no place like home

There's no place like home.

There's no place like home, those words are in the center of a wall quilt I just finished for an upcoming show I'm doing in August. There's no place like home rings true in everyone's hearts, for some say you can't go home again.

Someone once told me after I got married that my new home would always be just that, my home. The house I grew up in and spent many wonderful years in with a loving family would be a place to visit. To me, that is so not true. I loved my house that I grew up in, although now, due to tough times after my Dad died the house is no longer ours. Mom moved a half dozen times and going to visit wherever she lived was always home to me. Upon visiting I would also have a chance to see brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and the dog.

Mom always did her best to make us feel welcome, often regretting when it was time for us to leave. Our son never wanted to leave either, but there would always be another visit. Since Mom has died, we still go home to visit family, but its not the same without her there, the spark is gone, my heart is broken.

For some of us, home is what or where you make it, for me it will always be where my family is. My sisters and brothers welcome with open arms each and every time. Sometimes life hands you troubles, family squabbles, little disagreements, but they are only temporary.

For in our hearts, we all know, "There is no place like home, and don't you forget it." For my Mom, her forever home is in heaven right beside my Dad. Home will be where your heart leads you.
