Data on Dog Attacks – Let's make logical decisions to ensure public safety

Information on Dog Attacks

I applaud our commission for taking steps in the right direction. This
is something that needs to be addressed.

Of all 3,655 Dog-Attack Fatalities / Maimings since 1982; 2,394 were attacks by Pit-Bulls or close mixes.

3,064 were by large molosser breeds including: Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Presa
Canarios, Cane Corsos, mastiffs, Dogo Argentinos, Fila Brasieros, and their mixes.

Why don't you look at the data. Let's not draw favor for our emotions instead of public safety, and what consequences our dangerous decisions have on our neighbors.

Here is the DATA:

Please try to be logical. Let's not let the next Dog-Attack be on one our children.

Dump the dogs. Get a cat, keep it inside. Cats have more class. If they don't like you, they ignore you or leave. A dog tries to remove your leg.

I am ultra allegic to cats. Otherwise they are acceptable as they do not have to be walked and can be trained to use the same potty you use. Now if only they could flush. I am sure there are some women who want to know who I mean't exactly.
Seriously, The statistics speak for themselves. Unfortunately because of illegal dog fighting. their popularity with drug dealers, and our urban "thug" culture pit bulls largely have been bred for maximum aggression and their ability to hang on with tremendous power. Pits, unlike English Bull Dogs that have been bred more as pets now than for their original purpose of "bull baiting" have become the "assault rifles" of the dog world. Add that many, including young puppies end up in animal shelters where they are adopted unsuspectingly spreads this problem to all demographics. By the way Mark cats can attack, as the old saying goes "dogs will chase cats but it is an awfully stupid dog that catches one". For class I prefer the Michigan grey wolf over both, don't you?

Regarding my last comment. It is my opinion that in fad conscious Royal Oak that all pit bulls, and pit bull mixes should not be licensed in the future in this city.
Breeds such as he American Bulldog though highly capable of being trained for aggression largely retain the friendliness of the English Bulldog. These new licensed breeds are expensive and generally owned by afficianados of that particular breed who generally do not use them for nefarious purposes. All dogs can be made pychotic, or neurotic, you do not need to be a canine psychiatrist to notice how some dogs seem to naturally resemble their masters. Yes, prozac is now being prescribed for some Royal Oak dogs with issues. The results so far have been so encouraging one could be elected to office.

We already elected a big mutt 3 years ago. Hasn't worked out, behaves poorly on a regular basis. Too late for training, it insists on soiling wherever it wants.

Mark you could report your errant hound to our state canine discipline board but as comissioner Capello aptly points out its the pack mentality that is the problem. Unfortunately, the leader of the pack does not have a Royal Oak license and as his dog house is in another city our animal control comission is powerless.
Does you lovable mutt chase bicycles? Since most Royal Oak pooches are registered breeds and too laid back to chase bicycles we just passed a millage to hire the extra police to do that job for them.

I took Michelle's couch to 5K class. It was awesome. More than 40 runners competed in their first 5KRead More race Sunday in Royal Oak. Woot!
