Salvation Army In Need of Volunteers to Brighten Christmas for Less Fortunate

The Royal Oak's local branch of the Salvation Army needs your help this week.

The holiday season is here again and that means volunteering is in full swing. We’ve been showing you ways to get involved each day during our 30 Days of Giving series. On Day 6, we mentioned the , but did you know Royal Oak has its own Salvation Army branch?

This year, the Royal Oak Salvation Army needs your help as it prepares once again to assist the less fortunate in our community to ensure they will receive a holiday that is merry and bright.

The organization is in need of a large number of volunteers this season to assist more than 1,000 families during its biggest event of the year – the Christmas Toy Shop – and iooking for help in the following areas:

Christmas Toy Shop Set Up

Volunteers are needed to sort and stock new toys, clothing and stocking stuffers and place them in the Community Center/Toy Shop. Clients will then be able to select gifts for their children.

  • Dec. 12, 13 and 14 from 9 a.m.-noon and/or 1-4 p.m.
  • Lunch will be served between shifts.
  • Please note that lifting of 10-20 pounds may be needed.

Christmas Toy Shop Distribution 

Volunteers are needed to help assist parents on a one-on-one basis by picking out new toys and clothes. Some volunteers who are comfortable lifting 20-25 pounds are needed to load the items into the clients’ vehicles, while others be asked to keep the tables stocked during the distribution.

  • Dec. 15, 16, 19 and 20 from 8:30 a.m.-noon and/or 1-5 p.m.
  • Lunch is served between shifts.

Christmas Toy Shop Tear Down

Volunteers are needed to break down the Toy Shop area and repackage leftover toys, putting them into storage until next Christmas. 

  • Dec. 22 and 23 from 9 a.m.-noon and/or 1-3 p.m.
  • Lunch is served between shifts.
  • Please note that lifting of 10-20 pounds may be needed.
