VIDEO: Corvettes Cruise with Food for Needy

Hundreds of Corvettes cruised down Woodward on Wednesday night for a cause.

The classic sports cars filled the parking lot of on Woodward at 11 Mile bringing food and money donations for the . The pantry serves the residents of Oakland County in times of emergency, providing food and other essential items.

Pantry Chairman John Avery said the Royal Oak pantry, which was started in 1983, will provide groceries for thousands of people this year.

This is the fourth year longtime 'Vette lover Larry Courtney of Warren organized the charity cruise. Courtney, who has been getting together with Corvette friends since 2003, said he decided to “kick things up a notch” and organize the food drive after visiting the Open Hands Food Pantry and seeing the difference it makes for families.

The event began at the   on Woodward in Bloomfield Hills where approximately 400 Vette owners showed up bringing food and money donations. From the Radisson, they cruised down Woodward to St. John’s —although some didn’t make it.

 “There was a bottleneck around and some of the cars started to overheat and had to turn around and go back,” Courtney said.
