Week Ahead: MC Hammer, First Day of School and More

There's a lot going on in Royal Oak this week. Here are five things you should know as you go about your week.

It's a busy week in Royal Oak, as usual. What do you have planned?

Here are five things you should know as you go about your week:

1. Labor Day is Monday: Click here to find out what's closed, open for the holiday.
2. Arts, Beats & Eats on Monday: MC Hammer closes the four-day festival with an 8:30 p.m. performance on the Michigan Lottery National Stage. Click here for a guide to everything Monday at the Labor Day weekend festival in Royal Oak. Event hours are 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
3. Salvation Army Thrift Stores host Labor Day Sale on Monday: Usher in the new school year with amazing deals at Sally's on 4th, 114 E. Fourth St., to celebrate the season during the nonprofit’s annual Labor Day Sale. All 34 metro Detroit thrift stores will keep their doors open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2. 
4. First day of school is Tuesday: Students in the Royal Oak School District head back to class on Tuesday. Click here for the 2013-2014 school calendar.
5. Drive One 4 UR School is Saturday: The test-drive event is back from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.  on Saturday. Check out new vehicles from Royal Oak Ford and raise funds for student fitness. Click here for more information.
