Take a Self-Guided Walking Tour of Public Art in Royal Oak

Print a map and explore art in downtown Royal Oak.

“Public art is abounding in Downtown Royal Oak!” according to Royal Oak Commission for the Arts member Keith Howarth. The new public art program called Art Explored that launched this summer with three works from Michigan artists Brian Brook, Richard Gage, and Todd Stovall, continues to grow with six new installations. The new installations include the 20 foot “Whimsy of Whales” by Jennie M. Burt on the side of Qdoba off of Third Street.

Jennie M. Burt, Doug DeLind, Tiffany Massey, Robert Henderson, and Erik and Israel Nordin were selected to have their art on display in downtown Royal Oak until April 2014. A map of all the installations has been created to guide residents and visitors as they tour the art.

Art Explored is a program of the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts (ROCFA), sponsored by the Arts, Beats, and Eats Foundation. Artists are chosen by ROCFA to have their work displayed in downtown Royal Oak for up to a year. If the pieces are sold while on display, ROCFA receives a 25 percent commission on the work to support the future of the program.
