Royal Oak's downtown fire station is the headquarters, with a dedicated full-time department. It houses trucks, inspection equipment and offices of the fire chief and the fire marshal. The department has a long history: It was founded in someone's home in 1908, and the first fire truck was purchased in 1915. This building was constructed the same year to house the truck.
