Opening Day celebrations approach holiday-level sales, according to Miller Lite distributer.
Opening Day truly is a holiday in Michigan. With more than 450 people hopping on buses in Royal Oak headed to Comerica Park today, one might think it's a federal holiday. "Opening Day is busy for us all day long," said BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon operating partner Nicholas Filimon. The bar sold-out nine buses to see the Tigers take on the New York Yankees today, with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m. "Even people that don't go to the game take long lunches or they leave work early and watch the game on TV here. It's a lot of fun. It's a great day for sales," Filimon said. As a team, the girls ranked fourth in their division.
Three girls on Royal Oak's High School figure skating team competed this weekend at the Michigan High School State Championship held at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena. At an individual level, Anna Thompson, Isabel Marcelletti and Kaitlyn Davidson and all made it to finals. (Sondra Benoit, sophomore, was scheduled to compete but had to scratch due to an ankle injury.) Anna Thompson, sophomore, competed in the Juvenielle Test Track (TT). In the first round, Thompson took third place out of six girls, in the finals she took sixth place out of eight girls. Isabel Marcelletti, sophomore, competed in the Pre-Juevenielle TT. More than 300 runners and walkers participated in the Lucky Dash on Saturday. Here's a list of the top Royal Oak times in the 5K race.
Ben Hill, 16, of Royal Oak (15:34) and Miranda Wolanin, 16, of Sterling Heights (19:03) led the men and women's fields in the first Lucky Dash 5K on Saturday in Royal Oak. Among the finishers were 114 Royal Oak runners and walkers. For complete results click here.
