Royal Oak High Student Named National Merit Semifinalist
Academic achievement earns Freida Blostein a distinguished honor.
Royal Oak High School senior Freida Blostein was among 16,000 students nationwide recognized as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship competition. The program, which recognizes academically talented students from across Michigan and the nation, allows Blostein to apply to be a finalist, which in turn would qualify her to compete for one of 8,300 possible scholarships, totaling more than $34 million, next spring. In order to become a finalist, all semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal and earn SAT scores to confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying PSAT test.
