Brinker was surprised Monday afternoon with a knock on the door by her colleagues to make the announcement.
When Prinicpal Jane Flarity-Gram knocked at the door of teacher Molly Brinker's Addam's Elementary School classroom this afternoon, she wasn’t expecting it at all. Royal Oak Schools superintendent says kindergarten has "changed significantly," with more learning content than in the past. One principal offers top indicators for kindergarten readiness.
Kindergarten isn’t what it used to be, according to Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools superintendent Shawn Lewis Lakin, so the Royal Oak Patch has gathered some tips from local educators about helping little ones succeed in their first year of formal education. Lakin said kindergarten has “changed significantly over the last several years.” “There is much more learning content in kindergarten now than there has been in the past,” he said. But as long as parents are involved in the learning process, parents need not worry. “Our kindergarten teachers are well-equipped to support students in being successful with that content but a critical component is the partnership with students and their families to support students in being successful,” he…

I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Brinker at Keller Middle School. Her enjoyment of her students and her passion for teaching were evident in all of her interactions with kids. Her knowledge of curriculum and of instruction were reflected in the achievement of her students. She is an outstanding teacher for whom this recognition is well deserved. Congratulations Molly!   more ›
