Put on your poodle skirts and join in the fun as the Baldwin Theatre gets transformed into the 1950s when Stagecrafters Youth Theatre performs the classic musical, Bye Bye Birdie. This rock ‘n’ roll infused show, performed by youth from the tri-county area, runs July 19-22 at the Baldwin Theatre, 415 S. Lafayette in downtown Royal Oak. Originally produced on Broadway in 1960 starring Dick Van Dyke and Chita Rivera, the four-time Tony Award winning musical Bye Bye Birdie was inspired by the headlining news of Elvis Presley being drafted in 1958. I found this play a great opportunity to see the magic of playing a harp. The harp was on the stage but off to the side so it didn't block the performance. I've heard harps before, but never saw one played--it was amazing.   more ›

The Stagecrafters are at it again. Disney's Camp Rock promises to be a fun, rockin' time for the whole family. The musical is based on the Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. The vibrant cast of young actors lights up the stage bringing the show to life. The production will run from now through July 31. Well, we all have our opinions and I would say that 90% of the Stagecrafters and Stagecrafters Youth Theatre shows are top-notch fantastic community theater! Let's keep in mind everyone involved are volunteers with the exception of the musicians, (who are payed only a wee bit for their talents).   more ›
