Cars have all-wheel drive and improved communication systems.
A car chase that ended with a bank robbery suspect being taken into custody was captured in high definition on one of the Royal Oak Police Department’s newest patrol cars earlier this month. The riveting video is an example of the capabilities of a new state-of-the-art communication system and high-technology cruisers. Officers used good tactics and judgment in the dangerous pursuit on April 10, according to Chief Corrigan O'Donohue. And, the black Ford Interceptor Officer Matt Murray was driving in the bad weather played a role, too. (See attached video.) Ryker, an 18-month-old Dutch Shepherd dog, has already been put to work, according to the police chief.
Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue announced the newest members of his team to Royal Oak City Commissioners on Monday night, including the police department's youngest member, an 18-month-old male Dutch Shepherd dog. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Ryker, greeted city officials with a tennis ball in his mouth. Partnered with Officer Richard Chipman, the pair competed a six-week training course in Denver, IN, finishing at the top of their class, according to the chief. When Ryker is not hard at work tracking, drug-sniffing, and helping with apprehension control, he stays with Chipman, who describes his 70-pound partner as having a lot of energy and drive. John Jones, 47, of Royal Oak Township is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond.
The suspect in a robbery last week at Chase Bank in Huntington Woods was arraigned Wednesday. The man is being held in the Oakland County Jail without bond, Huntington Woods Public Safety Director Steve Fairman said. John Jones of Royal Oak Township was charged in 45th District Court in Oak Park via video arraignment from the jail, The Daily Tribune reported. Judge David Gubow ordered Jones jailed without bond, according to the report. The 47-year-old, who was shot Sept. 10 in Pleasant Ridge after fleeing the robbery scene, was released from Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and turned over to the jail Monday, Huntington Woods Public Safety Deputy Director Nick Armold told The Daily Tribune.
