Check Out Royal Oak's New Police Vehicles

Cars have all-wheel drive and improved communication systems.

A car chase that ended with a bank robbery suspect being taken into custody was captured in high definition on one of the Royal Oak Police Department’s newest patrol cars earlier this month. The riveting video is an example of the capabilities of a new state-of-the-art communication system and high-technology cruisers. Officers used good tactics and judgment in the dangerous pursuit on April 10, according to Chief Corrigan O'Donohue. And, the black Ford Interceptor Officer Matt Murray was driving in the bad weather played a role, too. (See attached video.) Murray's new cruiser is equipped with all-wheel drive for inclement weather and has new video capabilities. The Royal Oak City Commission approved the WatchGuard In-Car Video System for …

Royal Oak Adds New Officers and Police Dog to Force

Ryker, an 18-month-old Dutch Shepherd dog, has already been put to work, according to the police chief.

Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue announced the newest members of his team to Royal Oak City Commissioners on Monday night, including the police department's youngest member, an 18-month-old male Dutch Shepherd dog. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, Ryker, greeted city officials with a tennis ball in his mouth. Partnered with Officer Richard Chipman, the pair competed a six-week training course in Denver, IN, finishing at the top of their class, according to the chief. When Ryker is not hard at work tracking, drug-sniffing, and helping with apprehension control, he stays with Chipman, who describes his 70-pound partner as having a lot of energy and drive. In fact, on the K-9 team's first night out on patrol, ROPD officers came across two …

The city manager doesn't live in Royal Oak. The police chief doesn't live in town, nor does the fire chief. Over 75% of the police and firemen live outside of the community too! I will be voting No on the tax increase request. Royal Oak has money to police a bar district, but not the neighborhoods. Well, I'm not paying for it!   more ›

I often wonder why we need more police, when the current cops spend most of their day parked in the church parking lot on Main St. North of 12 mile.   more ›

As I stated on another posting there is a possibility that the police benefits for the milage will go to more for the protection of downtown while the neighborhood patrol coverage receives the drippings. In other words business pretty much as usual. Still the alternative of defeating the milage would be a pyrrhic victory, a guaranteed recipe for failed city.
