Royal Oak has its fair share of lovebirds, so we decided to check in with a few of them before Valentine's Day and ask them to share relationship and date night secrets. Today we take a closer look at what makes Derek and Mandy Meinecke so sweet. How long have you been together?   We met on a blind date the summer following our sophomore year in college. We were married three years later, and have been married for 15 years. What’s the secret to a successful and happy relationship? Communication, trust, and unconditional love. What famous couple do you emulate? Famous only to us, Cliff and Mary Lou Morris (Mandy’s grandparents, 65 years of marriage), Jack and Eileen Pogodzinski (Mandy’s parents, 44 years of marriage) and Corky and Valerie …

On Thursday night, well-wishers painted a heartwarming and humorous picture of Judge Derek Meinecke, 37, as he was sworn in to serve the 44th District Court.   “The night was tremendous. It was a nice combination of a tribute and roast,” said Meinecke, Royal Oak’s newest public official, on Friday. The judge didn't seem to mind some of the good-natured ribbing he recieved on his special night. "A lot of people left with good feelings," he said. "If any town was going to have an event like last night, it's Royal Oak." Here are a few touching and funny highlights of Meinecke's judicial investiture ceremony held at Royal Oak Middle School. Retired Administrator of the 44th District Court endorses Derek Meinecke.

As a retired Administrator of the 44th District Court, I want to encourage you to vote for Derek Meinecke for District Judge for the City of Royal Oak.  I watched Derek grow up, become a loving husband to Mandy and their three children, and presently an excellent prosecutor. He came to the 44th District as a law clerk for Judge Daniel Sawicki and later became an Assistant Oakland County Prosecutor, a position he has served for the last 12 years, prosecuting criminals with a strong determination to put away the bad guys. It is not surprising that the Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, the Oakland County Prosecutor Cooper and all three Royal Oak Police Officer Associations have endorsed Derek Meinecke to be our next 44th District Court…

Ever heard the saying: "If something (or someone) sounds to goo to be true.......it (he or she) usually is. My problem is with the Oakland County Circuit Court and the majority of judges associated with it. Ask any lawyer who wishes not to be quoted, and they will tell you. This judge only votes for municipalities. This judge is impossibe... and it goes on and on. Justice ha! Tell it to Sweeney. …   more ›

By signing this as the President of the Optimist Club, Dunstan gives the impression that he is speaking on behalf of the Optimist Club. Same goes for the other organizations that he listed. I hope he wasn't intentionally trying to mislead voters that the Optimist Club endorses Mr. Meinecke.   more ›
