Red Wings Open Camp in Plymouth, Offer Free Admission to Red vs. White Game

Red Wings' warmups open to public at Compuware Arena in Plymouth.

While its home venue, Joe Louis Arena, is booked for the North American International Auto Show, the Detroit Red Wings are offering fans a chance to see the team prepare for its lockout-shortened 2013 NHL season in Plymouth. The Red Wings opened training camp Sunday before about 2,000 fans at Compuware Arena, 14900 Beck Road, in Plymouth, according to the Detroit Free Press, and began a second session at noon on Monday. The team returns to Plymouth at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, and will hold its Red vs. White game later that evening, beginning at 6 p.m. The Red vs. White contest also will be carried live by both Fox Sports Detroit, with Ken Daniels, Mickey Redmond and Larry Murphy calling the shots, and on 1270 AM with Ken Kal and Paul Woods. Poll: Will You Watch the NHL When Hockey Returns?

The NHL and Players' Union reportedly have reached an agreement to end the lockout. While there is an agreement to return to work, will you return to watch the NHL?

Labor peace may finally be returning to the NHL after the league and players reportedly reached an agreement to end the 113-day lockout, the Huffpost Detroit reported. The league will reportedly try to schedule a 48-game season. When hockey returns, will you watch? Share your opinion in our poll?

Red Wings Announcer Budd Lynch Remembered as 'Ambassador of the Game'

The Wyandotte man began his career with the Red Wings in 1949 and worked in radio and TV before becoming public address announcer.

When Red Wings radio color commentator Paul Woods came to Detroit as a young player in 1977, he first met Budd Lynch. At the time, Lynch served as Detroit's public relations director, one of several hats the longtime Wyandotte resident would wear in his 63 years with the Red Wings organization. Lynch, who died Tuesday at age 95 after battling a brief illness at a local rehabilitation center, most recently served as the Red Wings' public address announcer, a post he held from 1985 though last season. He first came to Detroit in 1949 as a radio play-by-play announcer and was the longest-tenured Red Wings employee in the organization's history, according to the team. Red Wings’ Assembly Program Skates into Royal Oak

Keller Elementary students get an interactive lesson on exercise and healthy eating from the Detroit Red Wings.

Keller Elementary was seeing red Thursday afternoon as the Red Wings School Assembly Program skated into Royal Oak to introduce kids to the sport of hockey and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle. During the Keller visit, the school assembly team opened the program with a lesson on exercise and healthy eating tips, followed by a fun face-off between teachers and students during a hockey shootout competition. The school received two full sets of floor hockey equipment complete with hockey sticks and goalie nets courtesy of the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, as well as a Red Wings folder and a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan keepsake magnet that lists five fun afterschool activities. NHL Free Agent Rumors Fuel Red Wings Fans

Detroit hockey fans take to Twitter to hope for a new star as free agency kicks off Monday.

Detroit Red Wings fans on Monday helped fuel the beginning of the NHL's free agency period with rumors and discussion of where hockey's brightest stars would land.. Would All-Star defenseman Ryan Suter leave Nashville for Hockeytown, effectively replacing future Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom on the Red Wings' first line after the 20-year veteran retired in May? Could the American forward Zach Parise, considered by Yahoo! Sports to be the most-coveted free agent in hockey, pick Detroit over scores of other teams? Red Wings to Ring Bells for Salvation Army on Friday

Six Detroit players, coach and general manager scheduled to collect donations in Plymouth, Northville, Birmingham and Troy.

Members of the Detroit Red Wings will be sporting red kettles Friday in Plymouth, Northville, Birmingham and Troy to raise money for the Salvation Army, according to a news release from the team. Coach Mike Babcock and Ken Holland, the team's executive vice president and general manager, will collect donations from 3:30-5:30 p.m. outside Hiller's Market in downtown Northville. Holland is serving as the honorary chairman for the Salvation Army's 2011 Red Kettle Campaign for the sixth straight year, according to the news release. Drew Miller and Valtteri Filppula of the Red Wings will be at the Kroger in Plymouth.
