Students offered chance to win scholarship and VIP tickets to Lincoln Day Dinner event featuring Donald Trump as the keynote speaker.
The Oakland County Republican Party announced today that it will host the first annual “High School Lincoln Club Essay Competition” for Oakland County high school students, in conjunction with the 124th annual Lincoln Day Dinner. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and three VIP tickets to the dinner, to be held on Tuesday, May 21 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Mich. Lincoln Day Dinner Chairman David Trott made the announcement. Interested students will write essays totaling 1,000 words or less about political leadership, inspired by the theme: “Abraham Lincoln chose to do what was right, rather than what was expedient.” Writers may use a variety of sources, including newspaper articles, books and websites. Wyandotte woman, 24, adjusting to life after capturing the crown; will represent Michigan at Miss USA pageant.
Jaclyn Schultz, of Wyandotte, was networking in her career as a media strategist when she decided to enter the Miss Michigan pageant as a new challenge. A newcomer to pageants, Schultz was hoping to finish in the top 15. But instead, she won the crown. Schultz, 24, who works for Brogan & Partners in Birmingham, was crowned Miss Michigan USA 2013 at ceremonies in Port Huron. She was among 70 women who competed for the title of Miss Michigan USA on Sept. 29 at McMorran Theater in Port Huron. “I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I was sobbing in all the pictures.” She was a little nervous about being in the Miss Michigan pageant, but it was more excitement on her part, Schultz said. “I channel my nerves toward it being a positive thing.” On …

Miss Michigan glad she stayed true to herself during Miss USA pageant and glad to return home to Royal Oak.
When Miss California Alyssa Campanella took the crown at the Miss USA pageant on June 19, Miss Michigan Channing Pierce of Royal Oak figured she was 1 for 2 and was happy. The Miss USA competition in Las Vegas was only the second pageant in which 24-year-old Pierce had ever competed. She won the title of Miss Michigan USA 2011 in Ann Arbor on Sept. 11, 2010 – her first try in the pageant circuit. "I worked really hard every minute I was in Vegas at Miss USA," she said, "but it was not in the cards for me to win."
