If you're looking for an easy breakfast the kids can help make for Father's Day, try this super easy Santa Fe breakfast wrap.
Whether you're heading out for the day with the dad in your life, or meeting up for dinner after his rounds of golf, you can start him off on the right foot with a hearty breakfast. The trick is to find a recipe that comes together quickly, for impatient dads on the go, and is also something easy enough that the kids can help with the preparation. Here's a fairly healthy breakfast Dad will surely enjoy using a combination of chopped green onions, cilantro, shredded cheese and a couple hits of hot sauce. All the ingredients are added directly into three scrambled eggs. Kids can work on assembling the wrap using a medium sized flour tortilla for soft tacos, layering first the rice and baby spinach, then a thin layer of sundried tomato …

A Royal Oak Patch reader shares how much her father means to her.
Ashley Nestorovska, a 19-year-old college student shared a poem written to express what her father, Lou, means to her on this Father's Day: "He always expresses his love for his family and puts us first in his life, so I thought I'd give him a little appreciation," Ashley said. He never looks for praises He's never one to boast He just goes on quietly working For those he loves the most His dreams are seldom spoken His wants are very few And most of the time his worries Will go unspoken too He's there.... a firm foundation Through all my storms of life A sturdy hand to hold to In times of stress and strife A true friend I can turn to When times are good or bad One of my greatest blessings, The man that I call Dad. When I was a baby, He …

Patch columnist Cindy La Ferle reflects on the topic of losing a father, one of life's most difficult passages.
Editor's note: Father's Day can be a bittersweet holiday for those who have recently lost a father. Written as a Father's Day tribute in 2003, this essay is excerpted from Writing Home, a local story collection by Cindy La Ferle. Eleven years ago, after my father’s sudden passing, one of the first things my mother and I did was hire a bagpiper to play at his funeral. He was the son of Scottish immigrants who came to Detroit from the Orkney Islands in the 1920s. Always proud of his Celtic heritage, Bill Gullion had been raised to appreciate everything about the old country – food, folklore and history. Naturally, he loved the highland bagpipes, and we’d all have to stop whatever we were doing to listen to the pipe-and-drum corps whenever …
