There is something for everyone as Royal Oak hosts many fiestas this weekend while raising money for charity in the process.
What is Cinco de Mayo if not permission to hold a party? Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army in 1862. There are at least six celebrations in Royal Oak this weekend that include Mexican food, drinks and activities for adults and children, too. From PBS favorites Maya & Miguel and piñatas, to salsa lessons, strolling mariachis and margaritas, there is something for todo el mundo (everyone)! 4-9 p.m. Friday The Royal Oak Farmers Market, along with Camp Casey and PBS television are set to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a Mexican Fiesta Family Celebration at the market on Friday. Kids will enjoy meeting PBS favorites Maya & Miguel, bouncers, moonwalk, face painting, interactive games and a showing of…

With more volunteers and a larger area, organizers say Wednesday's event at the Farmers Market was a lot smoother.
Street Eats Wednesday opened for the second time at the Royal Oak Farmers Market, but this month, organizers and vendors were better prepared for the crowd. "This time we were ready for the masses," Market Manager Shelly Mazur said. Street Eats Wednesday is a food truck rally with vendors such as Jacques’ Tacos, Chow Catering, Taco Mama, Franks Anatra, Ned's TravelBurgers and El Guapo Fresh Mexican Grill. For the first rally Feb. 9 organizers said they ran into issues such as overcrowding and vendors without enough food or helpers. For this event, the entire market was open as opposed to last time when only half the area was used. "We planned for 500-700 people and we had 3,000," Mazur said of last month's event. At about 5:30 p.m. …

Mobile food vendors will serve up their best fare this evening in first 'Street Eats Wednesday' event.
Mobile food vendors will growl into the Royal Oak Farmers Market tonight, where as many as six 26-foot bumper-to-bumper trucks can fit comfortably inside the confines of the market according to market manager Shelly Mazur. The event, "Street Eats Wednesday," is sponsored by the newly formed Michigan Mobile Food Vendors Association. So far, organizers have lined up five trucks, a food cart and a popular local band, the Reefermen. Dan Gearig, 36, will serve up eats from El Guapo: Fresh Mexican Grill. The chef said the rogue street food movement is about culture and freedom — not to mention the inability to come up with $100,000 to start a traditional restaurant. "There are a lot of young talented chefs who don't want to do bricks and mortar…
