The Falcons edge out Royal Oak on the road; the Knights win in ugly game over Hazel Park; the Eagles stay perfect in Oakland Activities Association White.
* home team in CAPS Groves over ROYAL OAK 40-37 Birmingham Groves coach Scott Sheckell had a simple question after his team’s game at Royal Oak on Friday night. “Do you know CPR?” he asked, smiling. The Falcons needed some clutch free throws in the final minute to hold on to their three-point lead and escape with a 40-37 win over the Ravens in an Oakland Activities Association Gold division matchup. Royal Oak had two chances to tie game in the final 20 seconds, but both fell short. With 9.5 seconds left, Joel Gorbold turned the ball over trying to hit Martel Porter cutting to the basket. Gorbold threw the ball too high and it went sailing out of bounds. On the Ravens' final possession, Gorbold missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer. It was a …

Offense is hard to come by for the Ravens in 48-41 loss to Andover at home Friday night.
ROYAL OAK – The battle of unbeatens didn’t disappoint at Royal Oak High School on Friday night. In a game for the top spot in the Oakland Activities Association Blue division, the Bloomfield Hills Andover girls varsity basketball team (6-0; 4-0 OAA Blue) stayed perfect with a 48-41 win over the Ravens (5-1; 4-1 OAA Blue). “Andover is one of the better teams, if not the best team in our league,” Royal Oak Ravens Head Coach Brian Sopata said. “Everything is a little bit quicker, guarded a little bit closer and offensively they have five girls that can score on the floor at any time. From that standpoint, it takes a complete team effort (to beat them) and we didn’t have that.” The Andover Barons used an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to …
