News from the Pews: Dream Cruise Edition

Corvettes, canned goods, concerts and more planned for Dream Cruise

Wednesday, the Corvette Club delivered thousands of pounds of food to the Open Hands Food Pantry at St. John's Episcopal Church in Royal Oak. Club members also donated money to this worthy cause aiiding residents of our community. Bruce Donigan, a volunteer with Open Hands Food Pantry, said this is the third year that the Corvette Club has donated, and each year it has gotten bigger. “On the Wednesday of Dream Cruise week club members meet at the Radisson Hotel on Woodward in Bloomfield Hills. Then they parade up Woodward in their Corvettes - along with a truck packed with food - and deliver their donations to the Open Hands Food Pantry,” said Donigan. The pantry is staffed by volunteers and relies completely on monetary and food …

News from the Pews: Dream Cruise Service, VBS

Lutheran church schedules annual outdoor Dream Cruise worship and vacation Bible school wraps up as summer winds down.

Bring blankets and lawn chairs and cruise into worship at Cana Lutheran Evangelical Church’s annual Dream Cruise Worship. The casual outdoor worship service is at 10 a.m. Aug. 21, featuring musical guest Water to Wine. Later in the day, bring lawn chairs and blankets to Cana Lutheran at 7 p.m. for the free concert, Sounds of Summer. The music will be provided by STAGE Youth Band and other Lutheran worship bands. Participating Lutheran churches include Cana, Emmanuel, Good Shepherd, Peace, Prince of Glory and Trinity. A concession stand will be open. Prince of Glory is offering another free Preschool-Readiness Camp for all 3- and 4-year-old children from 9:30-11 a.m. Aug. 8-12. The camp will provide an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to preschool and see how the youngsters will do in a classroom environment. Area churches continue to offer summer activities for all ages.

Here's what's area places of worship are doing in the area: Join Starr Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for its annual outdoor worship and picnic at Starr-Jaycee Park, on 13 Mile Road just east of Crooks. The informal service will be followed by a picnic potluck. Hot dogs will be provided and guests are asked to bring a dish to pass and place settings for their family. Area churches offer Fourth of July activities and a new midweek program.

Local churches and places of worship always have much going on. Here are some highlights for the coming week: Join First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak for an afternoon picnic from noon-2 p.m. on July 7. The potluck picnic will take place on the church grounds. In addition to wonderful food and fellowship, there will be readings of short, inspirational stories with theological themes. News from the Pews: Outdoor Yoga, Resale Shop and Preschool

Local churches offer a wide variety of services and activities.

Jessica Beaubien, owner of and one of the yoga instructors for Soul Stretch Yoga, leads classes in Christian yoga that offer Scripture and devotional meditation, yoga postures for all skill levels, flowing yoga series set to inspiring Christian music as well as relaxation and restorative prayer time. The former Ferndale and current Milford resident attended Royal Oak First United Methodist (ROFUM) when she started Soul Stretch Yoga.
