Royal Oak's Oxford Inn Rethinks Name Change, Plan of Operation

Owner Bob Higgins wants to make it clear the restaurant may change its look and menu but not its standards.

After announcing in January he was going back to his country roots, Oxford Inn owner Bob Higgins is rethinking what he wants to do. Higgins' original plan was to add a little southern flair to Royal Oak and change the name of his Main Street eatery to Bobby's Nashville Bar and Grill. "But somehow it got out there that I was going to do a total change," Higgins said. "The way that it came out in the papers was that I was going to have line dancing and a mechanical bull. I think the public thought that it was going a country western place that didn't have any of my Oxford Inn food and that I was just going after all young people." I'd agree with you IF and ONLY IF your statement actually contained any accuracy. The Oxford is not and has not been "blaring country in [residents'] ears every night". In fact, the only entertainment they have had is every other Thursday night (which the "blaring music" ends by 9:30pm) and one Saturday night since this change first began to take shape. Royal Oak's Oxford Inn To Be Transformed Into Bobby's Nashville Bar and Grill

The Main Street restaurant is changing its look and menu to offer country favorites with a gourmet twist.

Bob Higgins is going back to his roots. The owner of the Oxford Inn, whose family hails from Erin, TN, plans to bring a little southern flair to Royal Oak this spring when he changes the name of his Main Street eatery to Bobby's Nashville Bar and Grill. After doing business at 1214 S. Main St. for 25 years, Higgins is hoping the Liquor Control Committee and the Royal Oak City Commission will look favorably at his request to change the name of his establishment. "All we are asking for is permission to change our name," Higgins said. "We aren't adding seats or anything like that." First they should widen the parking spaces to allow for all the pick-up trucks. Also check for low hanging electrical wires so the elevated pickups don't get entangled in the electrical lines....the nearby neighbors would not appreciate it. Also, handout ear protection to the neighbors. They should also check with the EPA for any barbecue smoke restrictions.   more ›
