Seth, You have to keep in mind that most Republicans get their directions from Flush Limbaugh, Fox News, and "The Third Stool", and once they tell you "Howdy"...they've done told you all they know.   more ›

Ryan Addresses Thousands at OU Rally: 'Let's Go Out and Get This Done'

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan delivers midwestern-flavored message at Monday's rally on Oakland University campus.

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan appealed to Michiganders on a very personal level Monday night on the campus of Oakland University. Speaking to an estimated crowd of 2,000 with another 1,000 in an overflow room, Ryan's 30-minute speech was peppered with the Michigan connections between the candidate and the crowd he was addressing. From references to Michigan State's "thumping" of the Wisconsin Badgers last year to the fact that "overseas means across Lake Superior to us," Ryan was clearly feeling neighborly. He even took credit for a certain Detroit Tiger: ("You got Prince Fielder from us," he said. "He's still a hero to us in Milwaukee.") "If you draw a line from Muskegon straight across the lake, that's where I'm from," Ryan said …

Beth and Kathy - I'm sorry, the Libya incident does not compare at all to the scale of the lack of accountability of the fraud and deceit that got us into, and kept us in, the illegal war in Iraq. And not only illegal, but intentionally kept OFF the books and budgets by W's budget director Mitch Daniels. The first time the wars were included in the budget was when Obama took office and he …   more ›

UPDATE: Mitt Romney: 'No One Has Ever Asked to See My Birth Certificate'

Republican presidential candidate draws crowd of 9,300 people at Long Family Orchard in Commerce, organizers say.

COMMERCE — An eager, happy crowd which reportedly swelled to 9,300 greeted presidential candidate Mitt Romney during his first trip back to Michigan since selecting Paul Ryan as his running mate. However, a joke Romney made about his roots in Michigan made the biggest headlines from the visit. A three-hour event at Long Family Orchard in Commerce was "rocking and rolling" from the moment doors opened at 9:30 a.m., through 85 degree-heat and steady sun which caused a few in the audience to require medical attention. Marked by speeches from Oakland County Commissioner Christine Long, who hosted the event with husband Rob; Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley; and U.S. Senate hopeful Pete Hoekstra among others, the event seemed to serve as a rally …

Blue Mitten Survey: Ryan’s Nomination a Gift to Democrats

In a Blue Mitten survey of influential Michigan Democrats, most respondents said that Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as the GOP vice presidential nominee will galvanize state Democrats.

Democratic Michigan insiders said Mitt Romney gave them a gift by selecting Paul Ryan as his vice presidential nominee: that’s the finding of this week’s Blue Mitten survey of influential Democrats. Thirty-one Democrats from the southeastern Michigan area were asked using an automated survey tool what they thought about Romney’s selection of Ryan as his GOP running mate. Twenty responses were collected. “Christmas in August for Democrats!” one respondent said. Indeed, 19 of the 20 respondents said they strongly agree or somewhat agree that Romney’s choice of Ryan "will galvanize Michigan Democrats in the November election". “This will wake up the Dem who might not have been involved,” one respondent said. “The two tickets now provide a …

Red Mitten Flash Poll: Paul Ryan Will Improve Mitt Romney’s Chances in Michigan

In a Red Mitten flash poll, a majority of the respondents said they believe Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as the vice presidential nominee will galvanize Republican voters in Michigan.

Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney’s pick for vice president, and it’s a choice that has drawn praise from Michigan conservatives: that’s the finding of Saturday’s Red Mitten flash poll of influential Republicans. Fifty-eight conservatives from southeastern Michigan used an automated anonymous survey tool to offer their opinions about Romney’s choice of Ryan as his running mate on the GOP presidential ticket. Twenty-one responses were collected over a six-hour period. This poll differed from our previous Red Mitten survey in that responses were taken in a much shorter time frame. “It was a strong choice,” one respondent said of Ryan as the vice presidential nominee. “And should help Romney surpass Obama in the polls.” Almost all the respondents—86 …
