More than 50 food vendors were on hand with samples of their fare while local bands performed on two separate stages. Several hundred people paid $75 for the honor of sampling food that included sweets, pork, wings, oysters, pizza, soups and just about anything you could imagine your taste buds enjoying. Mayor Jim Ellison was on hand at the event to meet and greet guests. He sampled a few tidbits while waiting for his wife, Jodie, to arrive. "It's exciting, and we've had a great turnout already," the mayor said at around 7 p.m. "I've had a pretzel with cheese and some salmon over at Hamlin's Corner. I'm standing by the door waiting for …

For a small donation to charity you could smooch a pooch at the Mutt Strut at the Royal Oak Farmers Market on Thursday.
Royal Oak Patch provided the kissing booth at the Bingo Salon Mutt Strut on Thursday at the Royal Oak Farmers Market to raise money for New Beginnings Animal Rescue and FiftyTwo4Mom. 10-year-old Roxy the Doxy gave out wet kisses for donations. Roxy was rescued two years ago at the Royal Oak Animal Shelter by Kay Brady and Jim Doyan of Huntington Woods. "She's so lovable," Brady said. "She gets up in the morning and gives kisses out all day." Share your photos of the Mutt Strut on Patch by clicking on the green "Upload Photos and Videos" icon.

With more volunteers and a larger area, organizers say Wednesday's event at the Farmers Market was a lot smoother.
Street Eats Wednesday opened for the second time at the Royal Oak Farmers Market, but this month, organizers and vendors were better prepared for the crowd. "This time we were ready for the masses," Market Manager Shelly Mazur said. Street Eats Wednesday is a food truck rally with vendors such as Jacques’ Tacos, Chow Catering, Taco Mama, Franks Anatra, Ned's TravelBurgers and El Guapo Fresh Mexican Grill. For the first rally Feb. 9 organizers said they ran into issues such as overcrowding and vendors without enough food or helpers. For this event, the entire market was open as opposed to last time when only half the area was used. "We planned for 500-700 people and we had 3,000," Mazur said of last month's event. At about 5:30 p.m. …
