Target is giving away gift cards; let's put a Royal Oak school at the top of the list!
Target could give up to $10,000 to a Royal Oak-area school. Here's how to help make it happen. Through the Give With Target initiative, the company will give schools a $25 gift card for every 25 vote it receives — so if a school receives 100 votes, it will receive a $100 gift card. There is a maximum gift card donation of $10,000 per school and $2.5 million total. You can vote once a week through Sept. 8, and know that Facebook will ask to publish your vote on the Target page. Here's the full list of Terms and Conditions. As of Thursday morning, there was not a Michigan school among the top vote-getters. Keller Elementary was leading Royal Oak Schools with 180 votes followed by Upton Elementary with 105. Go vote — then spread the word!

The Saturday morning program will include goodie bags, readings and other activities.
Target is hosting a free in-store reading event Saturday in celebration of the National Education Association’s (NEA’s) Read Across America program. From 9-11 a.m., the store will have a reading nook inspired by Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, and Target team members will read aloud from his books. Children will receive a reusable Target bag filled with goodies, and there will be other activities as well. Since 2003, Target has supported the NEA’s Read Across America program, which calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss. As a result of its support of programs like this, Target is on track to give $1 billion for education by the end of 2015. Click here…

Plan in advance
Every year a new list of school supplies would come home with each one of our five children. As an office supply junkie, I loved the annual trek to the office supply store. Keeping me in check, my husband would make a list of which store had the best deals on every item. At age 20, my college student daughter still gets excited at the beginning of each school year, even though she doesn't really need anything but a pen and a notebook. She has developed the same love of office supplies that her mother, aunt and grandmother have. Colleen Enders of Royal Oak is excited that her kids, Max, 13, and Meghan, 11, are going back to school soon. “Both kids are in middle school this year so school shopping will be pretty easy,” Enders said.
