Veterans Day Ceremony in Royal Oak

Military were honored in a ceremony this morning at the Veterans War Memorial Plaza.

The Royal Oak Memorial Society hosted a Veterans Day ceremony this morning to honor military veterans at the Veterans War Memorial Plaza between City Hall and  the Royal Oak Public Library. The ceremony included guest speaker CDR Brian J. Sheakley, commanding officer Navy Operations Support Center Detroit, who lives in Royal Oak. Also present were the St Paul's Adult Choir, Royal Oak Canadian Legion Maple Leaf Post 84, American Legion Frank Wendland Post 253, VFW Acorn Post 1669, Daughters of American Revolution, Benevolent Protective of the Elks, Knights of Columbus, Royal Oak Police Department Honor Guard and Royal Oak Fire Department Honor Guard. Royal Oak High School students performed taps and the Ninth Kentucky Infantry gave a rifle …

Here Come the Veterans Day Brides

Eight couples, including 10 military personnel, exchanged vows on Veterans Day at the Royal Oak Music Theatre.

It was a doubly special Veterans Day Friday for eight area military couples as they exchanged wedding vows at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in a “Call to Wed” event. “My father, who passed away last year, was in Word War II. I wanted to do something really special for him and all military veterans – those currently serving and those who have served in past years,” said Jessica Miller, rental coordinator of the Royal Oak Music Theatre.  A "Call To Wed” was her inspiration.  Since Veterans Day fell on 11-11-11 Miller wanted to make sure that at least 11 couples had the opportunity to exchange vows and that everything was paid for, including their reception.  "Everything was donated by local businesses so that these men and women could simply …

8 Military Couples to Wed at Royal Oak Music Theatre on Veterans Day

Engaged pairs will walk down the aisle on 11/11/11 during “A Call to Wed,” a multi-nuptial wedding and reception.

Today – Veterans Day – eight area military couples will exchange wedding vows at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in a “Call to Wed” event. Several local businesses have joined forces to provide products and services to make sure the 6 p.m. ceremony is memorable. Everything from wedding gowns to wedding cake has been donated. Royal Oak’s Black the Salon is providing hair and makeup for the brides, and groom haircuts. The brides have stopped by in the past month for a trial wedding look. Stylist Laura Trumbo said the salon is prepared to give the entire group the style they want. “We are just so honored to be a part of this,” Trumbo said. “We think all Americans should support the troops.” Royal Oak resident Linda Lexy will be officiating the …

This was the most amazing night ever! I am the mother of one of the grooms and I couldn't believe what wonderful jobs all involved did for us. From the decorations, cakes, food, atmosphere, photographers, media and ceremony (am I leaving anyone out?), everything was done in a caring and elegant fashion. Thanks again to the Royal Oak Music Theatre! This event will always be cherished.   more ›
