Out of nearly 2,000 photos submitted, the grand prize choice wins a Mackinac Island adventure.
Sunsets, family reunions, beaches, city skylines, tubing on lakes, Tiger games, wildlife, Mackinac Island and so much more. Those are among the nearly 2,000 images readers shared over eight weeks of the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. So it was tough to choose just one grand prize winner from the eight weekly winners, but we did: Beth Potts' snapshot of her new husband, Chris, during their honeymoon canoe trip to Isle Royale in Michigan's Upper Peninsula last summer. "We packed everything into the canoe and he navigated our way along the south shore to Moskey Basin, where we camped overlooking the bay," said Potts, of Grosse Pointe Woods. "We've both traveled internationally and around the U.S., but you don't have to leave Michigan …

Grand prize winner to be announced next week.
Our love of sports is a huge part of what makes Michigan what it is, illustrated by the winners of our final weekly Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. During Week 8 - the final week - of the contest, more than 160 photos that share readers' visions of Michigan were submitted for a grand total of nearly 2,000 entries during the eight weeks. We had two winners this week: Kristin Schreck of Rochester Hills' snapshot of the exciting end of a Detroit Tigers game and Grosse Pointe native and current Up North resident Gretchen Dorian's capture of the finish of this year's Port Huron-to-Mackinac Race. Early next week, we will announce the grand prize winner selected from all of the weekly winners. The grand prize winner will receive a …

Readers submit more than 100 photos of their favorite Michigan spots and moments each week.
Michigan is full of school pride and love of nature – both depicted in the winning photos from Week 6 and Week 7 of our Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. In Week 6, which saw more than 100 photos submitted, Terri Melvin Denhof shared a winning photo of a bunch of diehard Michigan State fans with mascot Sparty showing off their devotion to MSU. The Week 7 winning picture was more subdued but just as inspiring, as Bill Beckley captured snow covered tulips braving a late April snowstorm showed. "It demonstrates just how unpredictable Michigan weather can be, but the beauty of a Michigan spring will prevail," said Beckley of Ypsilanti. A close second among the 150-plus submitted photos that week was a snapshot of a storm cloud threatening …

Michiganians love their four seasons, but after a long cold winter most of us are ready for the warmth of spring. "I looked out and saw they had put the beach chairs in the snow fort and thought it was so funny, so I took a picture of it." Raymond's photo captures the prize for Week 5 of our Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. It was was selected out of more than 100 photos submitted for the week of Aug. 21-27. Sunsets, beaches and campfires all say summer in Michigan but there is plenty to enjoy and admire in our cities, too. Marsha Perzanowski and her husband were enjoying a recent summer day in Detroit when she took a photograph of the city's skyline that captured the prize for Week 4 of our Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. "About two weeks ago on a Monday morning my husband and I took our bikes to Belle Isle and had a picnic at that spot on the island," said Perzanowski of Shelby Township. The end to a perfect family reunion day in Capac captured Week 3 of the Your Patch of Michigan Photo contest. We ended the fun event with sparklers and a bonfire!" Mason said.
