Embracing a Milestone: Thoughts on Turning 60
Patch columnist Gerry Boylan ruminates on turning 60.
Next week I turn 60 years old. I'm calm, cool and collected as I type this out. It doesn't alarm me that I'm this old. I'm not trying to hide it, heck my oldest kids are in their thirties and I like being a grandpa. Having said that, while I think I'm adjusting well to this age milestone, there is just something very strange about being....60 freaking years old! I'm right in the middle-of-the-pack for the baby boomer generation, neither the oldest to reach Medicare age nor the youngest. The same is true for my place in my family. I share the middle child status with my sister Maryanne the Librarian. Maybe that's why it's odd to be officially older and in the beginning of the backstretch of life. I'm not in the middle anymore!
