In his first week at Royal Oak High School, Jim Moll connects with kids with games, handshakes and lunch.
At 6-foot-3-inches, Jim Moll – the new interim principal of Royal Oak High School – is difficult for anyone to ignore – except for teenagers. Not to be dissuaded, Moll is working hard to get their attention, even if it takes some “Magic.” “I’m a pretty gregarious guy,” Moll said. “So the students don’t get to just walk by me. I say, ‘Hello! How are you doing?’ They are getting used to me. I am sure they think I am intrusive, but I am calling it 'hands on.'” The 60-year-old administrator is subbing for Michael Greening, who was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 16 for "possible financial irregularities" related to a student activities fund. As part of his effort to get to know as many of the school's roughly 1,500 students as he can…

Royal Oak High School students and families ask questions about the investigation of the student activities fund, principal Michael Greening's leave and his replacement Tuesday night.

Lewis-Lakin said he wanted to be clear there has not been a suspension, …

Retired educator Jim Moll has been named interim principal of Royal Oak High School while officials investigate possible financial irregularities that may have occurred under Greening's leadership.
A reception to introduce new Royal Oak High School interim Principal Jim Moll to the community is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in the high school media center. Superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin sent a letter to the school's roughly 1,500 students and their families last Thursday saying Greening – a longtime Royal Oak resident and educator – had been placed on paid administrative leave "due to the possibility of financial irregularities in student activities funds." "The concerns are about potential irregularities in the high school activity fund, which is a fund which includes accounts for the various high school activities and clubs," Lewis-Lakin said…

Well said William! I'm sure the "neutral status" and "no accusations" will not make the Detroit News or Free Press. Good on Judy for acknowledging it here, even though it is buried in this story.   more ›
