A Beaumont surgical team, led by Kongkrit Chaiyasate, is reconstructing the nose of a West Michigan girl who was severely disfigured as an infant in a raccoon attack.
Charlotte Ponce, 10, of Spring Lake, will undergo her fourth surgery today to reconstruct her nose and upper lip. A raccoon attack, when she was an infant, left the West Michigan girl severely disfigured. Surrounded by her favorite stuffed animals and a new Furby toy, Charlotte was a trooper this morning as the Beaumont team prepared her for surgery. Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate, of Beaumont's Craniofacial Clinic, completed the first stage of Charlotte’s nose reconstruction in August. In the first procedure Chaiyasate and his surgical team took tissue with a blood supply from Charlotte’s forearm to create a lining for her new nose. During Charlotte's second procedure in October, Chaiyasate took skin from the girl's forehead and pulled it down …

A Beaumont surgical team, led by Kongkrit Chaiyasate, reconstructs the nose of a Charlotte Ponce, who was severely disfigured as an infant in a raccoon attack.
Charlotte Ponce, 10, of Spring Lake, underwent her third surgery on Friday, Nov. 2 to reconstruct her nose and upper lip. Surgeons from Beaumont's Ian Jackson Craniofacial and Cleft Palate Clinic were pleased with her progress. She is expected to go home tomorrow. A raccoon attack, when she was an infant, left the West Michigan girl severely disfigured. During the third procedure, the medical team thinned her nose, enhancing its shape and they began reconstructing her upper lip. Skin from her lower lip was grafted to create an upper lip. Because of the surgery to her lips, Charlotte will be unable to eat solid foods or open her mouth for a few weeks. “It’ll be rough for a couple weeks, but this will all be worth it, you know, in the end,” …

Charlotte Ponce, a 10-year-old who was attacked by a pet raccoon a decade ago, is set for surgery at Beaumont's Children's Hospital in Royal Oak where she'll get a new nose, ear and lips.
It's been a long time coming for 10-year-old Charlotte Ponce, a Michigan girl whose face was attacked by a raccoon when she was just an infant. But on Aug. 15, Ponce will make her journey from Spring Lake to Royal Oak where she will place herself in the care of Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate at Beaumont Children's Hospital for the first step of her facial reconstructive surgery. Dr. Chaiyasate, a plastic surgeon in the Craniofacial Clinic at Beaumont, will perform craniofacial reconstruction and microsurgery on Charlotte in order to reshape her nose, ear and lips. When Charlotte was 3 and a half months old, her birth mother laid her down for a nap with a bottle and then left her unattended. The raccoon somehow got inside her room eating off parts…

Charlotte Ponce, a 10-year-old who was attacked by a pet raccoon a decade ago, is set for surgery at Beaumont's Children's Hospital in Royal Oak where she'll get a new nose, ear and lips.
A spirited 10-year-old from Spring Lake MI, who was attacked by a raccoon as an infant, is excited to spend a week in Royal Oak at Beaumont Children's Hospital where she'll get a new nose, ears, lips and lots of Popsicles. Charlotte Ponce is the facial reconstruction patient of Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate with Beaumont's Craniofacial Clinic. Charlotte's first procedure is scheduled for Aug. 15. "Her big thing is getting free Popsicles," said Sharon Ponce, Charlotte's adoptive mother. "She is silly. She is a typical girl. She is very animated and she loves animals and Popsicles." Popsicles aside, this is a perfect time for Charlotte to undergo plastic surgery, her mother said. "She will be a teenager soon. She is a little more self conscious …
