I also have a story, I picked up a Sunday paper and decided to stop at quiet Subway on Telegraph in Pontiac for lunch before continuing to Dixieland. I was wearing a raincoat and was the only customer. I place my tray down and I hear a familiar sound I would rather not have heard while standing with my back was to the door. The sound was the click, lound clack of a shotgun racking. I slowly raise …   more ›

'Serial Bank Robber' Suspect in Custody

A man suspected of robbing banks in Royal Oak, Birmingham and Berkley was arrested Wednesday during an attempted bank robbery at TCF Bank on 12 Mile Road.

Royal Oak Police confirmed the arrest of a man on Wednesday who is suspected in a string of bank robberies in Oakland County over the past several months. The arrest came during an attempted robbery at TCF Bank at approximately 12:41 p.m. in Royal Oak, which had been robbed twice in March 2012 by a man wearing a mask. Royal Oak Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue said he believes the man in custody is the "serial bank robber." With all due respect, I think the choice of adjective used is being taken a bit too literally by the three folks who have directly replied to Judy's comment. When I consider the ongoing discussion, I ask are you able to describe an individual of light or dark complexion as accurately as you seem to think you can, based off of whatever (normally short) period of time a witness has in a given crime…   more ›

'Serial Bank Robber' Strikes in Royal Oak for Third Time

A man who robbed a Main Street bank on Feb. 22 is believed to be a suspect in five other area robberies.

A Royal Oak bank is the latest target of a "serial bank robber," according to Federal Bureau of Investigations officials.  On Feb. 22, a man entered the Citizen’s Bank at 800 S. Main St. with a handgun and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect matches the description of a masked man believed to have robbed several banks in the area, according to FBI spokesperson Simon Shaykhet. Since December, five other banks in Oakland County, including two on Main Street in Royal Oak, have been robbed. The other robberies occurred in Madison Heights, Berkley and Birmingham.  Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue said at this time the Royal Oak Police Department does not have a lot of details to release on Friday's bank robbery.   "We are …

Can't understand why the banks did away with the protective glass. When I was younger, all banks had bullet proof glass, probably 6 feet tall. Still had bank robberies, however, not like what is going on now.   more ›
