Poultry in Motion: Chicken Shack Mobile Kitchen Delivers 'Wow Factor'

Guests rave when Chicken Shack delivers everything, including the kitchen sink, to a Royal Oak birthday party.

Amber Kimmel, of Royal Oak, wanted to do something pretty cool for her husband Brad's 40th birthday, so rather than invite guests to a restaurant, she brought a restaurant to her guests.

"We had the mobile Chicken Shack kitchen come to our house in Royal Oak," Kimmel said. "The neighbors and all of our guests thought it was amazing! The staff set up and kept hot food available at the window all night long."

Chicken Shack, which opened its first store in Royal Oak in 1956, today has 20 locations. In 2012, they decided to add a food trailer to the options for delivering moist and juicy broasted chicken, said Neil Sobeck, vice president of Chicken Shack, Inc.

"The 'wow factor' of the trailer is huge," Sobeck said. "It's really unique and different. It makes a statement."

The mobile kitchen has four broasters, two fryers, a grill, walk-in cooler, onboard water supply and a generator.

"It's pretty self-contained," Sobeck said. "The first year we had it we brought it to different events and fairs. We were trying to figure out what works."

This year they've added private parties and corporate events, such as company picnics, to the list of places to take the trailer, he said.

"We were able to serve 600 people at an employee appreciation day from the trailer," Sobeck said.

Kimmel said her guests were able to take tours of the mobile kitchen.

"We had about 85 guests and I think I have heard from most of them thanking me for the best party ever!" Kimmel said.
