Drooping Traffic Signals Close Main Street in Royal Oak

Early morning crash takes out traffic signals.

Signal heads on South Main Street, near Harrison Avenue, are dangling near the ground after an early morning crash knocked down a pole that supported the traffic signals' guy-wires.

The Royal Oak Department of Public Service was on the scene this morning. A worker said a call came in to DPS at around 2:30 a.m.

Neighbors report being awoken just past midnight.

"Immediately after the crash we heard some pretty blood-curdling screams," said Jay Dunstan.

The Royal Oak Fire Department reports one person had minor injuries in the single-car incident.

No word yet as to when the pole, which fell near the George & Daughter Hair Port, will be replaced so Main Street can reopen between West Harrison and Parent Avenues.

In September, the traffic lights at the intersection of Rochester Road and 12 Mile Road came crashing to the ground when a truck bumped a pole supporting guy-wires.
