Letter to Editor: Proud to Vote for 'Equality and Fairness'

I'm writing to express my support for Proposal A, the upcoming human rights ordinance in Royal Oak.  This ordinance would make Royal Oak the 28th city in Michigan to ban discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodation on the basis of perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.

As a parent intent on raising educated, caring, compassionate kids, I feel strongly about ensuring fairness and equality in my town and in this state.  I want my gay and lesbian friends and family to enjoy the same rights as everyone else, including the right to work, to live where they choose, and to grab a bite on Main Street on a weekend night without fear of discrimination.

After 40+ years living and raising my family in this city, I'm proud to be able to vote for equality and fairness on November 5.  I hope my neighbors will join me in creating a more just Royal Oak.
