UPDATE: An Inch or More Snow Expected Tuesday Night

The evening commute could be very slippery as rain changes to snow.

Update, 10:20 p.m.: A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday with snow-covered and icy roads expected to develop tonight as temperatures drop below freezing.

Snow is expected to continue this evening and then diminish after midnight, with 2-4 inches accumulation in Metro Detroit, but more likely closer to just an inch in Royal Oak, according to the National Weather Service.

7 a.m.: On top of all the rain we've gotten already, the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Winter Storm Watch effective this evening through Wednesday morning.

Rain is expected to change to wet snow this evening, with 3-5 inches falling between tonight and Wednesday.

"Six inches or slightly more is not out of the question if precipitation changes to snow by late afternoon," the NWS said.

Tonight's commute may be extremely hazardous as the rain freezes and snow covers the icy roads. Roads are also expected to be slippery for the Wednesday morning commute.
