Police Blotter: Thieves Target Unlocked Homes, Vehicles

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Thefts from unlocked vehicles, garages and homes dominate reports to the Royal Oak Police Department the week of June 10-16:

Mystic Gifts robbed

Mystic Gifts, 418 E. Fourth, June 14: A tray of 30 silver rings was stolen from the business. The rear door of the business had been pried open.

Homes invaded

2700 block of Crooks, June 9: Someone entered the house through an unlocked window and stole three laptop computers.

4800 block of Woodlawn, June 13: Someone entered the house and stole several laptop computers and other electronics.  

Women scares off Jeep thieves

700 block of South Minerva, June 10: The complainant reported that she observed a suspicious older box-style vehicle, maroon or brown in color, stopped in the middle of the street. She observed two people near a parked 2005 Jeep vehicle. The complainant scared the suspects and they fled the area. Royal Oak officers responded and discovered the suspects had made an attempt to steal the Jeep.

Items stolen from unlocked vehicles

700 block of North Edison, June 11: A woman reported her wallet and portable DVD player were missing.

500 block of Hendrie, June 11:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered her unlocked vehicle and stole money and her Bridge Card.  

900 block of North Wilson, June 12: Someone entered the unlocked vehicle and stole the owner’s company ID badge and keys.

500 block of Forest, June 14:  The complainant reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole an iPod and money.

1500 block of East Lincoln, June 15: The complainant reported an unknown person entered his unlocked 2009 Jeep Cherokee and stole his in-dash GPS/stereo system.

Bicycles stolen

500 block of Normandy, June 11:  A bicycle was stolen from an unlocked garage.

800 block of North Wilson, June 13:  The complainant reported that someone broke into his garage through the locked side door and stole his bicycle.

Royal Oak Middle School, 709 N. Washington, June 13:  An unsecured bicycle was stolen from the front of the school.

More thefts

700 block of South Dorchester, June 6: A concrete bear statue was reported stolen from the porch.

200 block of East 12 Mile, June 8:  Four wrought iron chairs were stolen from the home’s back yard.

Wendell’s Roofing Co., 1320 N. Campbell, June 15:  The complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole his construction trailer while it was parked behind the business.

Destruction of property

400 block of East Third, June 10: The complainant reported that an unknown suspect threw a brick through her car windshield. 

1900 block of Nakota, June 12: An unknown suspect smashed the security camera located on the rear of the house.
