Two Arrested for GPS Theft
Two people were arrested for allegedly breaking into a car in the Royal Oak and stealing a GPS unit.
Two people were arrested Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a car in the area and stealing a portable GPS unit.
Police arrested Thomas Gunnells, 19, a Royal Oak resident and Jere Diebold, 19, of Macomb.
A Royal Oak police officer initially spotted the pair at 1:52 a.m. in the parking lot of the Village Park Apartments, located at 1707 Gardenia, according to a police press release. Police said one of the men was observed approaching the other man standing between two unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot.

When the men spotted the officer, they quickly walked away from view but were located and detained while other officers arrived on the scene.
According to police, one of the men had a GPS unit in his possession that had been stolen from a vehicle parked in the Village Park Apartments parking lot.

Gunnells and Diebold were each charged with one count of larcency from an automobile. Both were arraigned Wednesday in 44th District Court before Judge Derek Meinecke. Bond was set at $1,000 each. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 12.
Police are currently investigating other break-in reports that Gunnells and Diebold may have been involved in.
